On Monday, 2 November 2020, industry experts discussed the topic:
From D-Mark to Euro: Economic miracle with a drop of bitterness?
The “D-Mark”, which was introduced on June 21, 1948, was far more than just a currency for many. After the end of the Second World War it represented a new beginning of German reconstruction, upswing, security and stability – an economic miracle.
At the turn of the millennium, the euro replaced the D-Mark. At the beginning it caused a lot of mistrust; people had the feeling that life had suddenly become more expensive. Today, the euro is official currency in 19 countries of the European Union and a symbol of European unity and strength. It brings numerous benefits to people, companies and countries.
What is Germany’s and Europe’s position on currency changes and what economic prospects does the euro bring along?
On the panel were:
Ernst Welteke, former President of the German Bundesbank, former State Minister
Carola Paschola, Fintech expert and former member of the management board, American Express
Andreas Scholz, Managing Director, dfv Euro Finance Group GmbH
Mike Kuhlmann, Frankfurt artist (“Transformation of money”)
